Default underwater cleanup in Sarnia

not sure if this is where this should be posted, if not I hope a mod will move it where it should be, and i am sorry if i posted it in the wrong spot, sorry about the long post

On September 19th we are asking all divers/non divers to join the Sarnia Underwater Club in conducting the 2009 Project Aware Waterfront shore and surf clean up. Although not our first kick at the clean up in this area we are hoping to once again pitch in and do our part. The mid 90’s saw up to 200 divers from multiple clubs and stores across Southwestern Ontario participate in this event, along the waterfront here. Let’s try to mimic that effort this year and for years to come.

here's the media release

DIVERS AND SHORELINE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED ON INTERNATIONAL CLEANUP DAY

The Sarnia diving community and local residents are being called upon to celebrate International CleanUp Day on Saturday, September 19th.
Sarnia Underwater Club needs your help to target underwater and shoreline debris in our area. Project AWARE Foundation coordinates underwater clean up events and urges divers and volunteers to jump in their wetsuits, pull on the gloves and make a splash for trash.
"Project AWARE is pleased to support the Sarnia Underwater Club. Divers are the guardians of our underwater environments-they often see first hand the effects of marine debris on your delicate ecosystem. This event is the largest single day volunteer event on behalf of our underwater environment. It’s a fantastic example of how people can work together to take action." said Jenny Miller Garmendia, Director of the Project AWARE Foundation.
"It’s not too late to get involved." says Jim Fedora, President of the Sarnia Underwater Club.
If you are interested in participating, contact Wendy McLeod at 519-337-6115. And you don’t have to be a diver to get involved. Bring your friends and family along to help clean up the shoreline.
The clean up will be just south of Mama Rosa’s restaurant in Bayshore Park. It is located almost at the end of London Road, on the water. All those interested should meet there at 9:00am on the 19th of September. There will be a large banner at the site. Following the clean up there will be a barbeque with food generously donated by Simon & Sheroll's No Frills in Corunna. We would also like to offer a special thanks to Waste Services Inc. for donating a waste bin to contain all of the refuse we remove from both the water and the waterfront. Sentry Fire Protection Services on Ontario Street has kindly offered free air tank fills for all divers after the event. Travel Sports equipment in London will also be helping out with air and prize donations
All divers need to confirm participation before the day and will be required to bring their diver certification card and sign an Underwater Liability Release Form. (Can be found on the Project Aware Website as well)
All Media Inquiries should be sent to Wendy McLeod at bmmcleod@sympatico.ca.
