Hi, all -

Sad news - there was a fatality this past Saturday at Gilboa Quarry. It involved an older dive instructor (65+ years old) from Lansing, MI. He was diving doubles in what is described as an unconventional and cluttered configuration. He was in the shallow end (35'-45') by the airplane when he was observed to be having buoyancy problems by at least two groups of divers. He refused their help and swam away. He was later found drowned, was revived at the dock by rescuers, flown to the hospital, became conscious at the hospital and talked to the staff, but then died from complications the next day on Sunday. For details, see the following message board.

There are also many more details on The Deco Stop, including the exact gear configuration, for those who can access this technical diving discussion board.

Very sad indeed. I have friends that were there at the time as well. It seems that we will not know what happened, but from the information available, it might have been preventable. :(

Thoughts and prayers to his friends and family.
